FAQs

Is hypnotherapy psychotherapy?

Yes. Hypnotherapy is a form of psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is a broad term that encompasses various approaches to mental health treatment aimed at helping individuals overcome psychological issues, improve emotional well-being, and enhance personal growth. It involves a therapeutic relationship between a trained mental health professional and a client, with the goal of addressing emotional or behavioural concerns.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a specific approach that utilises hypnosis as a tool within a therapeutic context. During hypnotherapy, the therapist guides the client in accessing a state of deep relaxation and focused attention (hypnosis), where they are more open to suggestion . While in this state, the therapist may guide the client through therapeutic processes aimed at addressing specific issues.

What is CBT?

CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It is a widely used form of psychotherapy that focuses on the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. CBT is based on the premise that our thoughts and perceptions about situations influence our emotional responses and behaviours. Therefore, by identifying and changing negative thought patterns and maladaptive behaviours, we can improve emotional well-being and functioning.

What does hypnosis feel like?

We go into a state of trance many times a day, when we are driving or concentrating on a task. I will guide you to access a state of deep inner-focus and at this time you will have full control but may be aware of my voice drifting in and out of your consciousness. It will feel dreamlike and you may feel a heaviness in your limbs. It is a wonderful feeling and you will 'wake up' feeling refreshed and relaxed.

Will I remember what happened during hypnosis?

You will remember most things but not all, but this is the way the memory normally works. For example, when you listen to a speech you don’t remember everything that has been said., but you will recall the majority of it. The same applies with Hypnosis.

How many sessions will I need?

Sessions vary depending on what you would like help with. I also usually find that a client’s level of commitment can determine the number of sessions.
During the Initial consultation I will be able to offer an approximate number but ultimately, I am guided by my clients needs and readiness for change.
